Ryan grew up around some of the best horses and horsemen the Western performance world has known — the cutting pen and the rodeo arena both. His mother, Danny Motes, owned CD Lights, one of the NCHA's great sires; his step-father is NCHA Hall of Famer Winston Hansma; and his father, Dave Motes, is a world champion team roper. Great horses were never far away.
That foundation shows up in everything Ryan builds today. Five NFR qualifications, an American Rodeo Championship, a Bob Feist Invitational title, more than a million dollars won — all of it earned the same way: showing up, day in and day out, with the same commitment to his partners that he gives his rope.
